What's been your most unexpectedly memorable travel experience, and why did it stand out among all your adventures?
Undeniably the trips we’ve taken to Nicaragua. I didn’t expect to fall in love with another country so much that I would want to live there. There’s not just one thing that makes the country of Nicaragua so special, it’s the combination of everything. The fresh seafood caught that morning, the kindness of the people, the beauty in the scenery, the world class waves, the clear starry skies, the unbelievable sunsets-there’s just so much to love. We can explore different cities and learn the history and we can spend hours out on the beach with our family. There’s always something to do and always something to learn.
If you could magically transport someone reading this to one destination you've visited, which one would it be and why?
Bali, Indonesia. We fell in love with the laidback atmosphere but the endless adventures. We explored, ate, drove (yikes), and spent so much time in the ocean. We were surrounded by the most vibrant greens and blues and the natural beauty was almost unbelievable--photos will never do it justice. Definitely somewhere we want to return to!
Many travelers have a bucket list of destinations. What's one place you haven't been to yet that's at the very top of your list, and what draws you to it?
We haven’t spent much time in Europe and we want to explore several old world countries including Spain, Amsterdam, Greece, Croatia, Portugal, and Italy. We love history and learning how places have become they way they have and why. We are huge foodies and appreciate different delicacies and especially look forward to trying all of the wine!
Traveling offers countless opportunities for breathtaking views. Can you describe a moment when you were truly awe-struck by the beauty of your surroundings?
Machu Picchu. When we visited here, we were all struck by the complexity of the community, how it was built, where it was located, and it really encouraged us to think about us the past. It is with no question why its considered one of the Wonder of the World. With my husband's roots from Peru, it was especially intriguing to see how this particular population began and lived.
Many travelers have a favorite travel accessory or gadget that they swear by. What's one item you never leave home without, and how has it enhanced your travel experiences?
100% packing cubes. I don’t think we’ll ever travel again without them. Especially with kids, everyone’s items are organized and compact—definite game changer!
